Oh Good! Awards Season To Last Even Longer...
The Razzies have announced that they have switched the dates of their nominations and ceremony to later in the year. The awards, which praise the worst films of the year, traditionally announce their noms today and hold their ceremony the night before the Oscars. This year, they will instead be announcing their noms on Oscars eve and holding off until April 1st to award -and ridicule - their winners. An appropriate date perhaps, but one that really drags the awards season out.
Speaking Of Awards! The Producers Of These Films Just Got Some...
Today's winners come to us from the Producers Guild, who have just handed out their awards for the cinematic year. The Artist was their big winner, taking home Outstanding Producer Of Theatrical Motion Picture, while Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's The Adventures Of Tintin was the big upset of the night, beating out critical favourite Rango for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures.
Casper Van Dien "Thrilled" About 'Starship Troopers' Reboot.
I think [the reboot is] fantastic. I support them," Casper Van Dien told MTV in an interview at the Sundance film festival. Van Dien, who played hero Johnny Rico in 1997's original, bug-splattering sci-fi actioner, said he had not been approached to star in the reboot, but he'd be up for it if asked. "If they want me in it, I'd be thrilled. If they want to go another way, I'd still be thrilled," he said.
How Many More Days Of 'Hobbit' Shooting Does Sir Pete Have? Lots.
After flying out to Sundance for one day, Peter Jackson had to make a hasty bolt for the exit in order to return home. During his fleeting visit Jackson managed to find time to sit down with the Hollywood Reporter, where he revealed that he had "about 100 days of shooting," when asked how much work he had left to do on The Hobbit. He then expanded on his tight schedule, saying, "which will take us through to July, and then the first movie comes out in December."
Stephanie Meyer's Non-'Twilight' Book To Now Be Turned Into A Movie.
Total Film report that Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) has signed on to the adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's other book The Host. Kruger will play The Seeker, a member of 'The Souls', who have invaded earth in order to enslave humanity. Andrew Niccol (Gattaca) has penned the adaptation and will also direct.
Today In "Today In": Don't you think it's always real clever when characters say the name of the movie they're in? Well, here's a barrage of them!
Today In Trivia: Simon Pegg, Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler were all either considered for or offered parts in Inglourious Basterds.
Today's Bad Movie Tagline: The tagline for Andrew Niccol's 2005 action-thriller Lords Of War: "The first and most important rule of gun-running is: never get shot with your own merchandise." Not quite as catchy as "Don't get high off your own supply" or as memorable as "The first rule of fight club is you do not talk about fight club is" is it?
Happy Birthday!: To director Jim Jarmusch, who is no doubt celebrating his 59th birthday today with coffee and cigarettes...
