This balls-to-the-wall action flick is led from the front by WWE wrestler John Cena. It’s produced by Mark Gordon, (who made Speed) and directed by Renny Harlin (who made Die Hard 2).
Cena plays detective Danny Fisher, whose girlfriend Molly (Ashley Scott) is kidnapped by a fiendish and thoroughly nasty terrorist with a grudge against him. Fisher is then forced to play a number of dangerous cat-and-mouse games around the streets of New Orleans in order to try and rescue her.
I apologise, we feel bad, but there's no trailer available. ~Ed.
Want to watch a good action film? Go out and rent a copy of Speed. Want a good drinking game? When 12 Rounds is released on DVD, compare the two movies and drink whenever the latter cribs a costume, plot device or set piece. You'll be hammered by the time a detective chases a tram that can't slow down. Producer Mark Gordon - who worked on both pictures - clearly hopes his teenage audience was in diapers during the '90s.
Director Renny Harlin is the saving grace of 12 Rounds. He can make a small-budget look far bigger than it is. He sets an unrelenting pace and - at a respectably concise 108 minutes - his picture doesn't over-reach. Some tension is provided by a few good jump-scares (the kind where a major character is unexpectedly killed) but they're not enough to distract viewers who have seen it all before.
Cellphone calls between a terrorist and a detective drive the plot from explosion to explosion. Let's petition to stop this technique, before we get Twitter-updating baddies. We've all got better things to do than watch macho guys yell abuse into their mobile phones. Bring back the days when fights were with fists and conversations were face-to-face.

Aimed to keep your pulse rate pounding without the need to take a single gasp for air, this big-budget action thriller excels at dishing out a plot that's a bit like a chess game on speed.
