I apologise, we feel bad, but there's no trailer available. ~Ed.
I saw several documentaries at the 2006 Auckland film festival, and this was by far the most memorable. It is now over a year since I saw it, and the premise of the film (that the production of cheap, plentiful oil will reach a peak sometime soon) appears to be coming true. As I write this, the price of a barrel of crude has just hit US$93, and 3 years ago it was around US$30 a barrel. When oil geologists, university professors and the head of the world's largest private oil industry investment bank tell you that oil production is about to peak, then we should all take notice.
A film loaded to the brim with defeatist talking heads who could learn a thing or two about fighting spirit. In their assessment of the oil crisis, they do not exude confidence: the days of the Beverly Hillbillies are history; Texas and the like are now graveyards for black gold; populations may have to be downsized; untamable economic growth means it's all downhill from here...
It goes to explain (through the words of scientists and experts) how our way of life is indeed in deep excrement and there's a devil's own problem brewing which will cause us bloody headaches. And probably sooner than we think...
Manages to avoid stridency and simplicity while delivering an alarmist message bolstered by myriad interviews with government, industry and academic experts...
