A bitterweet romantic-comedy from rooke writer/director Max Mayer. Soon after moving in, broken-hearted Beth (Rose Byrne, Marie Antoinette, Knowing), a brainy, beautiful writer, encounters Adam (Hugh Dancy, Confessions of a Shopaholic), an autistic fellow living in the downstairs apartment whose awkwardness is perplexing. As Beth pulls Adam into the outside world, their tricky relationship reveals just how far two people from different realities can stretch in search of an extraordinary connection.
I apologise, we feel bad, but there's no trailer available. ~Ed.
It was bang on at explaining autism without being too stereotypical. It also shows that the saying 'true love conquers all' has relevance in modern times.
LOVELY MOVIE. YOU THINK ABOUT IT FOR DAYS AFTER. THE CHARACTER ADAM IS JUST BRILLIENT.
I can't wait to bring my flat mates along to see this film so I can watch it again. The characters are drawn with subtlety, affection and clever insight into modern relationships.
Adam wraps up their story in too tidy a package, insisting on finding the upbeat in the murky, and missing the chance to be more thoughtful about this challenging situation.
A very superficial look at what it may be like trying to romance someone on the autistic scale.
A sensitive but not sentimental story about a romance involving a mentally challenged young man never makes a misstep.
Subtlety and nuance mark both the film's dialogue and performances. It's hard to see how Dancy and Byrne could be any better.
