Two words: Nazi Zombies. This giddy Norwegian splatterfest was the midnight romp at Sundance, an utterly unapologetic throwback to the gory days of 80s zombie flicks. Director Tommy Wirkola previously made a homage to Kill Bill, so you know he wears his influences on his bloody sleeve. In Dead Snow a bunch of horny chicks and horror movie nerds end up in a remote cabin in the snowy wilderness and then... well, you know. The film prides itself on ticking every 80s cliché, from the pop culture riffs to the crazy dude who talks about impending doom, to the idiotic characters having inappropriate sex, to, most important of all, the wildly inventive and disgusting gore Fx. An awesome film. I saw it at the film festival; I was pretty much in the front row, and must admit that I got a little scared at some points. I'm not a wuss, it's just a sign of a great film that it can make you shiver and recoil in fear as well as make you laugh out loud and have the best time at a movie. Well done!
Heading into this movie I wasnt sure what to expect, hadnt seen to much about movie prior to seeing it, well i was stoked with this movie! was funny as hell without "trying," the gore was fantastic almost seemd like the director was trying to out-do his last gore seen each time and he pulls it of fantasticly! Great Movie but help if with a good fun crowd when seeing
An obvious homage to Peter Jacksons earlier films, this is a treat for b-grade horror splat-fests everywhere. I was lucky enough to see it with an awesome Auckland audience at the film festival - the cheering and clapping added to the great entertainment.
We've been told the NZ release date for this flick is Thursday, 1st Jan 2009.
