Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton butt heads in this musical dramedy about two strong willed women battling for control of a community gospel choir. Also features country singer Kris Kristofferson and Nickelodeon star Keke Palmer.
Vi Rose Hill (Queen Latifah) is a no-nonsense mother of two and active gospel singer. When the leader of her Divinity Church choir suddenly dies, she assumes control and begins prepping them for 'Joyful Noise', an upcoming competition. Hill's abrupt manner ruffles feather, mostly with the former leader's widow G.G Sparrow (Parton) who believes that she is the natural successor. While the two leading ladies threaten to tear the choir apart, tensions rise again on the arrival of G.G's grandson, Randy (newcomer Jeremy Jordan) - a talented singer with an eye on Vi Rose's daughter (Palmer).
The film's gospel music has been written by respected composer/musician/producer and five-time Grammy award winner Mervyn Warren.
