Maggie (Anne Hathaway) is an alluring free spirit who won't let anyone – or anything – tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal), whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serve him well with the ladies and in the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales - pushing the new drug: Viagra. Maggie and Jamie's evolving relationship takes them both by surprise, as they find themselves under the influence of the ultimate drug: love.
Based on Jamie Reidy's memoir Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman.
Is this a good date movie? That depends on how new your relationship is. Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal are hotter than jalapenos in this sexy romp, set during the ‘90s Viagra boom. That alone calls for something beyond the usual rom-com parameters you’d expect from a film that has such a cheesy intro and an actress trying a little too hard to play adorably self-deprecating – but Hathaway is great in the depressing bits. In exploring those darker moments, the dilemma of a young couple falling in love despite her suffering from early onset Parkinson’s disease, the film finds a rare poignancy. And it isn’t bashful at all, incorporating plenty of sex and humour; you’ll feel like you’re sleeping with them too.
Aided by a sassy script full of punchy one-liners that skewer the medical establishment – Hank Azaria plays a doc with a disturbing eye for patients – it’s a movie that has as much to say about America’s obsession with prescription drugs as it does the relationship at its heart. The tone isn’t always consistent, lurching from physical farce to weepy and back, and the misogyny of Azaria’s character isn’t explicitly explained away as a dark ages trait. But unlike many of its shallow counterparts, this won’t leave you with an unpleasant comedown.

If it wasn't for the fact they are naked most of the movie I would have only given it 2 stars. It was a little boring and predictable but still had some good moments
I'm going to be charitable and say that it is definitely worth watching, but probably not at the cinema - it'd be great for a night in. I thought that it took a different angle to the cliched romantic comedy which made it really refreshing to watch. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway have so much chemistry, it's worth watching for that alone! However, the ending is a bit weak, but you couldn't really expect anything different. Still an enjoyable watch! :)
What a complete waste of time. I last an hour, though half of that was spent asleep. Bad and boring.
BORING @#$%^&*(), No real story line , Did not hear ONE audience reaction or laugh or gasp , The movie never got into 1st gear , let alone cruising in 5 th . SHAME ON THE MOVIE COMPANY FOR RELEASING SUCH RUBBISH !!!!
Walked out after an hour. Worst film I've ever seen. Not funny, script was all over the place, acting atrocious, an absolute shocker for Jake. Don't waste your time or money.
The director is Edward Zwick, a considerable filmmaker. He obtains a warm, lovable performance from Anne Hathaway and dimensions from Gyllenhaal that grow from comedy to the serious.
Well above the standards of your average romantic comedy, it's funny, sexy and smart. It's just not smart enough to stick to its guns to the end.
In the end, this is a smart movie that could have been smarter. The script feels like it was a draft or so away from total clarity and focus. But the energy of the cast and a dive into an unfamiliar world make the movie rather addictive.
A sometimes intoxicating, sometimes headache-inducing cocktail: a sweet, libidinous love story; a candid comedy of bedroom and workplace manners; and, most bravely, if also most jarringly, a medical melodrama involving a chronic and very serious disease.
It's back to the heady mid 90s with this new film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway.
