The film adaptation of the massively popular Broadway musical, featuring an array of ABBA’s greatest hits, tells the story of 18-year-old Sophie (Amanda Seyfried). It’s almost her wedding day and she still doesn't know who her father is. It could be any of her mother’s (Meryl Streep) past suitors: Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Bill (Stellan Skarsgård) or Harry (Colin Firth). The only way for her to find out is to invite all three to her wedding to see what happens.

Colonel Kurtz's last words in APOCOLYPSE NOW kept playing through my mind as I sat in abject horror and suffered the sheer mind-numbing banality of this Abbatastic torture. For this reviewer, hell is not a place of flames we descend to after we die. No. Hell is a cinema endlessly looping this rainbow of trite sh*te masquerading as cinema. I loved PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT - so it ain't the ABBA. Something evil lurks within this, and I don't just mean the sight and sound of Pierce Brosnan's singing either... "Any cinem screening this should be forced to hang up warning signs: "Highly Toxic" and then a smiley face beneath which is written: "Abandon hope all ye who enter here." That said, I know people over 50 and young girls who loved it. And Justin Bieber sells records. So what the f**k do I know? I know this though - if anyone tries to make me watch MAMMA MIA again I'll gouge my own eyes out with a rusty spoon and eat them. Not joking. Spoon - eyes - eat.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH, THE ACTORS ARE AMAZING AND DO A FANTASTIC JOB! NOT A HUGE ABBA FAN BUT THAT CHANGED FOR ME ONCE I WATCHED THIS WICKED MOVIE!
I loved this movie, I've seen it like 100 times. Even though some of the cast can't sing that well they All tried their hardest I Love Christine Baranski's version of "Does your Mother Know" and Merly Streep's version of "Winner takes it all". Its None-stop fun and laughter, I 100% recament it to everybody.

AND MERLY STREEP, AMANDA SEYFRIED, JULIE WALTERS, CHRISTINE BARANSKI, DOMINIC COOPER AND ALL THE OTHERS WERE SO GOOD AT SINGING THE ABBA SONGS I LOVE YOUS I SAW IT ON A DVD OF MY GREAT AUNT SO IM SAVING UP FOR IT ON DVD AND C.D :) IT IS SUCH A GREAT MOVIE U SHOULD WACTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheesy, silly, funny and oh so entertaining!
1/2 Meryl Streep, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski all turn in an energetic day's work. And as for the boys ... well, it's an old truism of musicals that you're better off casting actors who can sing a bit, rather than singers who can act a bit.
1/2 Perhaps we're looking for purer forms of escapism in these harsher economic times, but Mamma Mia! manages to hit just the right note with Abba song-and-dance routines, which will leave you humming 1970s disco tunes for days.
1/2 It didn't do the trick for me, and if I never EVER have to hear James Bond singing EVER again, I will die a happy woman.
This joyous frolic propelled and inspired by the timeless music of ABBA is a bit like Grease for the older set, with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan playing the leading roles. Based on the hit stage show Mamma Mia, it's an ambitious musical about secrets, love, friendship and is great escapism for all ages.
We've been told the NZ release date for this flick is Thursday, 10th Jul 2008.
