Monsieur Lazhar

French Canadian classroom drama, nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2012 Academy Awards. After an intermediate school teacher commits suicide, an eccentric replacement tries to stabilise the emotionally distraught class. 

Bachir is an Algerian immigrant, trying to find a decent teaching job in Montreal. The perfect opportunity arises under tragic circumstances when a teacher takes their own life. With a classroom full of children going through a confusing time, Bachir tries to help them through the healing process, using the power of self-expression and his own personal loss to guide them.
