Mockumentary following the Millsham Morris men and their fearless leader Derecq Twist (Charles Thomas Oldham) as they seek Morris perfection. What on earth is 'Morris' you ask? It's an English folk dance (allow Wikipedia to answer).
But Derecq is also preparing to set the Morris world alight by performing the ultimate Morris maneuver: the legendary Threeple Hammer Damson. In addition, he's pioneering an innovative, daringly freeform brand of the dance dubbed 'Extreme Morris', drawing the anger of traditionalist elements within the Morris community. When the Millsham team unveil their creation in competition, the Morris Circle (the governing body of Morris in the UK) bans Derecq from future competition. Totally devastated by the decision, Derecq embarks on a global odyssey through tragedy and triumph which gravely tests his passion for dance… the passion for Morris.
This movie should really get a zero. It was like watching paint dry. Maybe watching paint dry is better.
cOMEDY AS ONLY THE BRITISH CAN DO VERY FUNNY GOT LOST A BIT IN THE MIDDLE A REAL SPOOF ABOUT MORRIS DANCING AND A PUT DOWN OF LINE DANCING AUDIENCE WERE LAUGHING ALL AROUND ME
Have to say it is the worst movie I have seen in a long time.If I had been at home watching it on the TV the advert break would have been a happy relief.
Really enjoyed this, gentle, good natured and Morris dancing rocks!
The all-star British cast is pleasing but the script is not quite up to the talent on show.
The UK's best mockumentary to date...
At times its gentle, nuzzling brand of comedy is akin to being gummed by a sheep. And yet Akhurst and Oldham's tale is obviously heartfelt and frequently charming. If there is space in cinemas for lairy Nick Love, then surely there is room for films like Morris, too.
Trouble is, the jokes are lead-footed, and Aidan McArdle, playing the documentary maker, deadpans irritatingly every step of the way.
Overall the whole film feels decidedly flat-footed.
We've been told the NZ release date for this flick is Monday, 7th Dec 2009.
