This sci-fi thriller is from the Strause brothers, the directors of AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem and visual effect specialists who've worked on Avatar, Iron Man 2 and 300.
Bizarre blue lights descend on Los Angeles, drawing people outside of their homes and work like moths to a flame. This is an extraterrestrial force threatening to swallow the entire human population...
Alien invasion movies are never high art but the best ones are always entertaining. Unfortunately this effort does not fit that category, except for the occasional "so bad it's good" moments.
The directors are the Strause brothers, better known for their visual effects work on a string of blockbusters than they are for their direction. This becomes obvious, with the effects being impressive for a relatively small budget (rumoured to be around the $US 10 million mark) but the story and basic drama being woeful. The script is unforgivably amateur, failing to build up any suspense or tension when the story calls for it and is even worse at handling the romantic subplot.
None of the cast are particularly good but, to be fair to them, they never are given much of a chance. They are very pretty, so they have that going for them. Good looking but no substance – sums up the movie in a nutshell, really. A movie with this many quality special effects shouldn’t ever be as genuinely boring as this.

This movie will keep you interested somewhat by not knowing what is coming up next.It is well put together with good special affects. The ending is left to the viewer to finish the story which is frustrating. It is worth a look if curious.
This is the must stupid movie ever made by HUMAN! I spent 13 bucks only for introduction to game? This movie is a big mistake!!!!!!!!!!!
this sucks....... really bad got to be the worst movie i have ever seen, absolutely terrible 1 star
I'm a sucker for the apocalyptic, smash-and-bash, alien invasion blockbuster. I hated this movie, and walked out halfway through. Don't waste the price of admission. There are cheesy mini-series "events" on TV now and then which are a LOT better than this tinny little movie. AVOID.
Oh and Donald Faison should stick to comedy..
Technically ambitious, dramatically basic. Still, it's a major step up from an AvP sequel and delivers all the Saturday night whizz-bang and Sunday morning brain-ripping you could want.
Beyond the dazzling "first contact" sequences seen in the trailers, Skyline is a spasmodic and incoherent shambles hampered by an astoundingly stupid screenplay.
Some obvious comparables for Skyline are "Independence Day" and Steven Spielberg's "War of the Worlds," but there is nothing here that even approaches the comic-book verve of the first or the churning dread of the second.
An underwhelming and derivative sci-fi thriller that's only marginally more impressive than a run-of-the-mill SyFy Channel telepic.
