Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

The movie that started the phenomenon. Based on a Japanese film (no, really) called The Hidden Fortress, Star Wars, later rechristened A New Hope when sequels started to be made, tells the story of an orphan called Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), a simple farm boy who finds himself involved in a galactic battle against the evil Empire and its powerfully destructive space station called The Death Star.

Other characters included the headstrong Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), the wise old 'Jedi Knight' Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guiness) and the cocky pilot Han Solo (Harrison Ford), his co-pilot Chewbacca, and the two droids C-3PO and R2-D2. The evil Darth Vader became an iconic villain.
