I apologise, we feel bad, but there's no trailer available. ~Ed.
This is one of those horror films where the audience will all scream out loud and then laugh unaimimously at themselves for falling for the scare. There are some great horror film appropriations notably the blood dripping wide eyed crazed female from 'carrie'. horror buffs should be well satisfied. Apparently this also carries the full edit rather than the edit censored for american audiences.
I enjoyed 'The Descent'... it has a few really good scares, and kept the palms pretty clammy (especially the getting stuck in tight tunnel bit - claustraphobic hell). But I think I too was expecting too much after the glowing reviews. There's some hammy-ness with extra cheese, and the overbearing music was way over the top.
After reading the critics' reviews i was expecting to be really really scared, but wasn't, thankfully, as I'm not much of a horror fan. I do love femme adventure stories and studies of female friendships, tragedies and clever cinematography. Although there wasn't time to develop the characters to any great depth with all that action going on the gals early scenes felt real, with some great moments of complexity. Once again reviews had revealed too much - wish I hadn't known about what awaited or seen certain images that promote the film. Loads of blood and gore and pain but I never jumped in any of the scenes, even though I had escaped down there with them and was thorough engrossed. No-one considering caving should see this film, as it make it seem like complete bloody madness.
Scrambling around the dark caves and tunnels, the cast nails the atmosphere of fear and panic. All impress, but Mendoza is a standout, giving her ambiguous character nuance. Macdonald, tasked with giving the butchery real-world emotion, is also excellent; like a young Sissy Spacek, with added sex appeal. She provides genuine sorrow amid the scares of the horror film of the year...
Brutal, bloody, terrifying, astonishing... And so tense it'll leave you aching. The most significant Brit chiller since "28 Days Later"...
The Descent is scary as a marriage of every conceivable phobia, but it’s also a taut, economical and very thrilling exercise in filmmaking...
The Descent is bloody, disturbing, and genuinely frightening--you'll be very happy to leave that dark theater...
Any remotely claustrophobic movie-goer deciding whether to see The Descent has two options: make an immediate beeline to Norbit, or take the plunge into a relentless 90-minute therapy session in facing their fears...
