The Proposal

Romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock as bitchy office boss Maggie and  Ryan Reynolds as her hen-pecked employee Andrew.

When the high-powered Maggie faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she's actually engaged to Andrew (who she's tormented for years). He agrees to participate in the charade, but with a few conditions of his own. The unlikely couple heads to Alaska to meet his quirky family and the always-in-control city girl finds herself in one comedic fish-out-of-water situation after another. With an impromptu wedding in the works and an immigration official on their tails, Margaret and Andrew reluctantly vow to stick to the plan despite the precarious consequences.

The Talk:
Want to See It
No What say you? Yes

Rating: 3 Flicks Review:

Sandra Bullock was once America’s favourite girl next door, the most lovable brunette on the lot, so it seems strange to see her playing a bitch in The Proposal. But this is Bullock in fine form as comedienne and what could have been a totally cheesy romantic comedy is actually surprisingly funny.

Highlights include seeing Bullock feign a mean and hated boss, which she does convincingly. Secondly, we step out of a typical New York setting and get whisked away to Alaska. Beautiful locations that really make you want to go there (which I found out later were locations in Massachusetts – ha!). Finally there is the retro comeback actor Betty White who you should remember from The Golden Girls. Yes at 87, she’s still going.

You don’t go to a rom-com for the storyline and this does end up pretty predictable. What you do want is a laugh a minute, to be entertained and hopefully convince your respectable other, who is likely a guy, to come with. The guys all round me were laughing as much as I was.

Lovely scenery, hilarious nude situations, a funny old lady, a raunchy Mexican who keeps turning up and a puppy you want to take home. Well worth a look and laughs by the dozen.
