Rating: 5 Flicks Review:

If your kids are at primary school, they've never watched a Toy Story film on the big screen. It's been more than a decade since Buzz and Woody last invaded movie theatres and the films have aged well; they're as vibrant as they were in the mid-90s.

The young tikes we saw this double feature with sat transfixed by the bright colours, lovable characters and hilarious sight gags. They even seemed to understand most of the pop-culture references. These are special films that every family member will get a kick out of watching or re-watching.

Of the pair, Toy Story 2 deserves the highest praise. Its gut-wrenching sub-plot about adolescents outgrowing their toys could make a grown man cry. The sensitivity shown by this movie makes it one of the best sequels ever made.

To ensure you see this in theatres, Disney-Pixar have 'upgraded' the films to play in Digital 3-D. It could have been a cheap gimmick, but instead the technique ends up benefiting the story. It adds drama to shots where we see our tiny heroes' true size, living in an enormous, threatening world.

Then there's the double feature itself. For the price of one ticket, you get hours of viewing time, an entertaining intermission, and a chance to revisit two masterpieces. It's a recommended experience.
