3D documentary on the 2010 Isle of Man TT motorcycle race: "the most treacherous and gruelling course in the world".
Narrated by actor Jared Leto, this follows TT racers' reckless dedication in their bid to become 'King of the Mountain' and examines what motivates these rare, elite drivers. Racing along public roads on bikes just inches apart – with speeds hitting 200mph – drama, tension and tragedy all combine. Motorsport stars feature, including Guy Martin, John McGuinness (15 time TT winner) and Conor Cummins.
TT3D: Closer to the Edge marks the year anniversary of the death of Kiwi rider Paul Dobbs who died competing in the race, while the documentary was being shot.

You like motor bikes? Like going fast? Enjoy a bit of carnage from time to time? Then this is a must see film. I'd say its a guy flick, but really it'd be cool to see more ladies there, & nothing wrong with that. Its a doco all about the racing at Isle of Man. Once a year people desend on this tiny island and smash records of speed on the suburb roads. Falling off at 160km/hr, meh, no big deal... Sleepin in a van for days on end, not a problem.. Fix my own bike, why not.. its great, pretty much boy movie tho. Gerne : Man, racing, doco, motorsport 4/5 : just remember, doco and racing, thats about it, funny as guy thats followed though.
Follow Guy Martin, a racer, larrikan and guy strangely out of time. He doesn't give a toss about what people or sponsors think he just does and says as he pleases. We're introduced to his journey to win the race, and THE RACE itself. We get a sense through participants of what this race is about, the mystique and aura of the Isle of Man TT (IOMTT). Why does a rider do 170mph down small roads with stone walls, buildings, lampposts and fences lining the track? The result of this is a high death rate that is an accepted part of the challenge for all involved. The viewer is left in a state of shock at the rawness, reality and closeness of death. And yet everyone returns a year later to reminisce, ride, race and remember close friends now gone. This movie gives an inside look at the IOMTT like nothing before it. The parallel Guy Martin story adds an interesting dimension. His biggest challenge to winning seems to be his anger and bloody mindedness.
A very good documentary, following a very interesting character. Well worth watching. Closer to the Edge follows the unassuming Guy Martin in his quest to win a TT race on the Isle of Mann. He's not what you'd expect a motorbike rider to be, but for all his faults (many of which are comical) he can ride a bike and ride it fast. The film follows the buildup to the event and then the week of races, and we follow Guy and several other riders through the highs and lows of competing. I'm not a massive fan of 3D and I often think that a film would be just as good in 2D, and this is the case with Closer to the Edge. While there are some nice parts in 3D, I feel the 3D is unnecessary and it would be just as good in 2D. Watch this film if you like motorbikes and motorbike racing. Watch this film if you like a good underdog story. Watch this film if you like something different from the American mainstream dramas. It has plenty to appeal to many audiences.
A great film, could have used more 3D on the bike cameras but for all those that watch the film will, like one American in the film add a trip to the TT to their bucket list (I have). For those that watch the film check out the screen saver in workshop office!
Great movie. good perspective putting it into 3d. must see for motorbike fans.
It all makes for a motorsports movie you don’t need to be a petrolhead to enjoy.
The speeds on such narrow, winding public roads are hair-raising and superbly photographed, the crashes spectacular and the riders far more likable than anyone involved in Formula One.
A fascinating look not only into a sport but into the psyches of those who are prepared to lay down their lives for it.
Not just for the petrol heads, TT3D is a life-affirming joy ride for anyone with a heartbeat.
