Love Is A Force Of Nature

Ang Lee's Oscar, Golden Globe and Venice Film Festival winning tale of cowboy romance starring Heath Ledger and Jack Gyllenhaal.

In 1963 two farmhands (Gyllenhaal and Ledger) meet whilst tending sheep on a remote mountain, Brokeback Mountain that is. During these long months they form a friendship that sneaks its way into a sexual one. Once their job is done, they're back to their former lives and communities where homosexuality is not tolerated. Despite both marrying, the romance and connection they share will haunt them over the next two decades.

While the notion of gay cowboys may induce some sniggering in the back row, Brokeback Mountain is a masterclass in subtle directing. That's not to say Ang Lee shies away from sex; indeed the passion between the lovers is shockingly brutal. But it's a testament to his sensitive handling, and fearlessly vulnerable performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, that this love story between two ranch hands stands for something essentially human. It is both raw and exquisite...

A wonderful meditation on longing and regret shot with an eye for classic Hollywood. Gyllenhaal gets the show-role, but Ledger's buttoned-down performance is a triumph of quiet complexity...

Ang Lee's unmissable and unforgettable Brokeback Mountain hits you like a shot in the heart. It's a landmark film and a triumph for Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, who bring deep reserves of feeling to this defiantly erotic love story about two Wyoming ranch hands and the external and internal forces that drive them from desire to denial...

I must agree with the other reviews. Some of us might need to take a breather after certain scenes, certainly squirm worthy. But the film is wonderfully done, and very involving.

whats makes it so moving is how the movie stays with you after you've left. its an amazingly tragic love story the best I've ever seen. Heath ledger's performance is superb. Worth all the praise it's recieved

The most overrated movie of the year.

The most overrated movie of the year.

The most overrated movie of the year. Whether you are straight or gay it is a poor storyline with many many slow bits - the dogs are od though. The film is more about what is not said than what is said in the movie.

Being a 33 year old guy, I was surprised by this movie. I was sceptic about the subject matter (as many are), but was surprised that the movie was as od as it was. My wife enjoyed the movie, she says "it was eye opening" and "a very good film". I thought it was well done and worth seeing.

This Movie just plain SUCK's in more ways than one.

Slow paced, insiped, self absorbed, self indulgent, overhyped in short just plain BOLLOCKS.

Like all Art, it creates a reaction in my case ....pass the bucket ....quick.

Everyone should see this, just because it;s the first one of it;s kind really. The scenery is pristinely georus except for the yocals & what a fabulous love story between 2 people supressed with their own problems as we do. It was thought envoking & I would to a film like this just to support the producer for having the guts to make it.
